Peppermint is found almost everywhere in moderate climate zones throughout the world. The unique scent of ground mint leaves is unmistakable and it would be inconceivable to do without it. There is hardly a toothpaste that can be used without menthol.

The plant is harvested before it blossoms on a day with the strongest sunshine. This is when the menthol content is the greatest.

The dried peppermint leaves are used as well as oil obtained from the leaves of the mint through water vapour distillation. Peppermint oil is the most used essential oil. Peppermint oil helps to reduce the sensation of pain on the skin and mucus membranes. It also has disinfecting properties.

Externally:
In preparations with muscle and nerve pain. Furthermore it can be used as a peppermint tincture for headaches.

Peppermint oil may not be applied in the facial area of small children because it can result in cramps and breathing failure.
